The Foreign Ministry of Rebukes ADC for the criticism of the Ambassador Appointment

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly rejected the accusation by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding the delay in the appointment of the ambassador under the Tinubu government, describing the comment as “alarmis,” “politically motivated,” and “fundamentally misinformation.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Alkasim Abdulkadir, a special assistant on media strategies and communication to the Foreign Minister, the Ministry reiterated that Nigeria’s diplomatic missions remained active and effectively manned by experienced career officers, including experienced affaires.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied the new statement by the ADC regarding Nigerian foreign representatives and the rate of appointment of ambassadors under the administration of Bola President Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement said. “The ministry considers ADC’s statement as an alarm, politically motivated, and fundamentally misinfesome for the operational reality of international diplomacy.”

The ministry emphasized that the appointment of the ambassador was the responsibility of sovereign, not a matter of partisan speculation or rustic political. “The appointment of the ambassador is a sovereign function, not a problem that must be rushed for political comfort or partisan difference,” said the Ministry.

According to the statement, President Tinubu remains committed to overhauling Nigerian foreign services in line with the new agenda of hope, prioritizing services, competencies, national interests, and strategic alignment of political protection.

In contrast to ADC claims that Nigeria has become “noise” on the international stage, the ministry provides examples of high-level diplomatic involvement that has recently been carried out. This includes bilateral meetings with senior officials from the United States, Britain, Germany, China, Japan, and Egypt, as well as active participation in major multilateral forums such as BRICS, African Union, and Ecowas.

“The recent high-level involvement by the honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs showed a strong Nigerian external relationship,” the ministry said.

Responding to the ADC’s characterization directly about Nigeria’s foreign mission as a “apology symbol,” the ministry called the statement “not only wrong but insulting” the professionalism and dedication of Nigerian foreign service officers. He acknowledged that while structural and financial challenges survived, many of them preceded the current administration, Nigeria diplomats continue to represent the country with differences, often in demanding environments.

The ministry concluded by urged political actors to perform maturity and freedom in their public comments about foreign policy issues, emphasizing that Nigeria remains an active and respected participant in global diplomacy.
