The National Intelligence Service of the Republic of Korea (NIS) praised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for its exceptional effort and professionalism in learning a wanted 59 -year -old drug baron Ogbonnaya Kevin.
Ogbonnaya, who operates for 17 years underground where he sent illegal drugs for a value of billions of Naira all over the world, ended in February after his arrest by the agents in Lagos.
For years Ogbonnaya had been a pain in the neck of the Korean authorities following the persistent shipment of illegal drugs linked to him to South Korea. Consequently, an Interpol red warning was issued against him, while the National South Korea NDRA NDLEA National Intelligence Service in monitoring and arrested him.
He had taken a prison sentence of one year in Korea in 2007 for drug crimes and had deported to Nigeria in 2008. After years in which he had been on his track, the agents of a special operating unit of Ndlea arrested him on February 12, 2025, at his hiding place at n. 3, Ibukunoluwa Taiwo Close, Off Lasu Road, Lagos.
Enthusiastic about the turning point, a delegation of the Korean intelligence service on Wednesday paid the President/CEO of Ndlea, Brig. General Buba Marwa (RETD) a courtesy visit to deliver a letter of appreciation by the director of Nis, Toeyong Cho.
In his letter, Cho expressed gratitude for the support of Marwa and “the exceptional cooperation of the NDLEA during our recent joint operation, which led to the arrest of Ogbonnaya Kevin Jeff, a key figure in an international drug organization”.

Based on this significant result in our joint efforts against drugs related to drugs, I can’t wait to further strengthen our collaboration.” The NIS delegation including: the gentlemen Choi Youkwan and Kim Juseok sought the extradition of Ogbonnaya in South Korea to face the accusations of pending drugs.
In his response, Marwa expressed appreciation for the praise of the Koreans and has assured them that the world can always count on Nigeria in the global effort against illegal drug trafficking.
“We are pleased to collaborate with you and to be at the service because your service has a long history of professionalism. We want to give the certainty that at any time you can count on us to work with you towards a world without drugs,” said the head of the NDLEA.
He thanked the Korean government for the donation of some equipment to the agency, adding that “they will be of enormous help for us while we continue to perform our work in keeping Nigeria and the world safe from drug traffickers”.
He said he will study their request for extradition and work within the limits allowed by the Nigerian laws and bilateral agreements between the two countries.
He expressed hope in the possibility of obtaining training opportunities for the NDLEA officers in the institution of training of Corean intelligence as part of the evolving partnership.
