The Manchester United star explains why she pressed for the incorporation of her Nigerian name “Chinazaekpere”

The Manchester United defender, Patrick Dorgu, insisted that his Nigerian name ChiCazaekpere was included in his official name of names before the beginning of the season, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.

The two parents of the Danish international are from Nigeria and insisted on giving a Nigerian name at birth in the IGBO dialect, but the name has rarely been used in its details.

He joined Manchester United in January 2025 on the side of the Italian series, and a few months ago added his name IGBO “ChiCazaekpere” to show the total recognition of his inheritance and religion.

Chocazaekpere means ‘God responds to prayers’, “he explained in an interview with the official Manchester United website.

“That is what my parents gave me when I was born. Religion means a lot to me, it has always been a great part of my life and that of my family. I have always been praying since I was young and I still pray.

“The family and community is what I have grown up in Denmark, so it is good to try to keep it here too. I come to pray in this church on Sunday if I have time and we do not have a game; I try to be here as much as I can.

“I don’t know if that [religion] It has an advantage [on the pitch]. It’s always to believe, believe that God has a plan for me and my career. “
