The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday claimed troops of Operation Hadarin Daji had killed 80 terrorists in a recent airstrike on Gidan Kare Village in Ruwan Godiya Ward in Faskare Local Government Area of Katsina State.
NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM Edward Gabkwet, said in a statement on Monday in Abuja that the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji killed the terrorists and burned over 45 motorbikes in the operation carried out on the evening of June 15.
He said the airstrike followed intelligence information that terrorists numbering more than 100 people had burned down houses in a settlement about five kilometers away from Gidan Kare Village.
The spokesperson said: “Above the village at around 8.30pm, several houses were seen on fire and the entire village was in chaos.
“A few moments later, 12 motorbikes were seen leaving the village and following the path out of the village to a location near Gidan Kare Village and Kuka Shidda Camp where they were joined by a large group.
“Other terrorists were also seen arriving at the location from a different direction, an indication that the location is a busy center and it is likely that the terrorists were planning to further attack nearby villages.
“After getting this rare opportunity, authorization was requested, obtained and the location was immediately attacked at exactly 21:40, with over 80 terrorists confirmed to have been eliminated and around 45 motorbikes set on fire while the few surviving terrorists were seen fleeing or limping off.
“Further intelligence received following the attack also revealed that the terrorists had close ties to notorious terrorist kingpin, Yusuf Yellow and his close associate Rabe Imani.
“These attacks, along with other previous attacks, have undoubtedly disrupted terrorist activity in the region.”
