The Nigerian Church (Komuni Anglican) has officially decided on spiritual relations with the British Church, rejecting the appointment of Bishop Sarah Mulully as the Archbishop of New Canterbury, quoting his support for same -sex marriages and his improvement as the first woman to occupy historical positions.
In a highly written statement signed by the primates of the Nigerian Church, Henry C. Ndukuba the most revised, the church condemned the announcement made on Friday, October 3, 2025, described it as “destroying” and “insensitive.”
According to the statement, development reflects a deep moral and theological decline in the leadership of the Anglican Communion.
“This election is a double danger. First, this ignores the majority of anglican punishment who cannot accept the leadership of women in Episcopate, and second, it is more disturbing that Bishop Sarah Mullally is a strong supporter of same -sex marriage,” the statement said.
The Nigerian Church remembers the bishop of Mullally’s 2023 statements following the voting of the British Church to approve blessings for same-sex couples, where he praised the decision as a “moment of hope” for the Nigerian church churches further “deepened the wounds that had torn the Anglik communication unity.”
“It still needs to be seen how the same person hopes to improve the fabric of the Anglican alliance that has been torn by a controversial same -sex marriage, which has caused a large crisis in all fellowship for more than two decades,” the Church said.

“On our side, as a member of the Gafcon family, the Nigerian Church confirms Gafcon’s unconditional position and reaffirms our previous establishment to uphold the authority of the Scriptures, our historical beliefs, evangelism and holy Christian life, regardless of the ongoing revisionist agenda,” the statement added.
The church also issued an appeal for conservative anglaikan in England and throughout the world to reject what is described as doctrinal compromise in the global church.
“We encourage all loyal brothers and sisters in the British Church who consistently reject the deviation called same-sex marriage and teachings that are not pious by fighting for the faith that was conveyed to the saints (Judas 1: 3),” the statement said.
With this declaration, the Nigeria-Sast of the largest province in the Global Anglican-Anglican-Enthusiastic Alliance away from the Canterbury spiritual authority, underlines the cracks that widen the gender roles and same-sex relations in the Anglican family throughout the world.
