The Nigerian government is monitoring the organizer of the #FearlessInOctober protest — Onanuga

The Federal Government says it is monitoring organizers of the #FearlessInOctober protest scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, to ensure that the protest does not turn into rioting.

The #FearlessInOctober protest was part of the #EndBadGovernance protests in August across the country that spoke out against the excruciating hardship, hunger and poverty in the country as a result of government policies that have led to rising costs of living.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said while the government is not against Nigerians exercising their right to protest, security agencies have engaged some of the organisers.

“The government is not opposed to any peaceful protests by Nigerians. After all, it is their fundamental right to carry out any protest. “But the government is always worried if the protests turn into riots like we experienced in August or the 2020 EndSARS protests in many parts of the country,” Onanuga said.

He emphasized that the organizers were being monitored to ensure they did not cause chaos in the country.

“Security agencies have been in discussions with some of the organizers and they are being monitored so that they do not throw the country into chaos or allow themselves to be exploited by internal and external forces who want to overthrow the country and the 16-month-old child. administration.”

Onanuga further stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is not denying the hardships facing Nigerians, adding that reforms undertaken by the government have begun to bear fruit based on data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Bureau of Statistics. NBS).

“The government wants to reassure Nigerians that there is light and asks for patience and understanding from our colleagues,” he said.
