Minister of Education, Dr. Supi Alausa, on Wednesday reiterated the commitment of the federal government to fully switch to the Computer -Based Examination (CBT) for the West African Inspection Board (WAEC) and other exam bodies in 2026.
He stated this while monitoring the behavior of CBT WAEC examination in Abuja.
Alausa stated optimism about Nigeria’s capacity to modernize its inspection system and reduce broad malpractice through digital innovation.
The minister described the shift in the traditional pen and and the traditional paper to CBT as a historic and important step towards education and educational integrity.
He said: “We work very hard to eliminate fraud in our examination system, and WAEC leads.
“We now have clear evidence that when the exam is conducted using technology, the level of fraud is minimized to be almost zero.”
According to the Minister, all WAEC multiple choice examinations will be conducted using CBT in November this year.
He added that the Essay Questions and Neco exams would take part in 2026.
In infrastructure and logistics, especially in remote areas, Alausa acknowledged the challenge but ensured that the solution that could be discussed was ongoing.
“Will we be ready to provide every infrastructure needed in November? Not at all.
“But when we move to the future, we will be ready. We must challenge ourselves as a government,” he said.
