The Nigerian government threatened to drag the Abuja – Lokoja road contractor to EFCC, ICPC

The Minister of Work, David Umahi, has issued a stern warning to the contractor who handles the parts of the Abuja -Alokoja road construction to sit or dragged before the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corruption Practice and other related violation commissions (ICPC) for poor performance.

Umahi, who issued a warning during the inspection tour from Abuja to Obajana Junction in the state of Kogi on Saturday, stated disappointment that only one of the contractors had completed three kilometers from a stretch of 400 kilometers after being awarded a contract almost two years ago.

The angry Umahi who spoke to the contractors, acknowledged that although the quality of work in some parts should be praised, however it was declared dispointment at the pace of project implementation.

He also warned that field engineers who failed to increase concerns because they did not perform would also be held accountable.

“The three jobs we gave in 2023 might face EFCC. We will call them to the office and give them a schedule in line with the law,” said the former Governor of the State Ebonyi.

“If they fail, we will not have the choice but to submit this problem to EFCC and ICPC to restore public funds,” Umahi added.

According to the Minister, the government of the Tinubu Bola President has intervened more than 230 kilometers, leaving about 200 kilometers in a sad condition.

He registered several contractors on the project, noting various levels of performance.

“JRB construction has executed more than 15 kilometers from the stress of 22 kilometers with satisfactory quality.

“Guild Construction handles 53 kilometers in the N56BN, with slow but quality delivery, while Trucrete executes 47 kilometer reinforced concrete sections that were previously ended from bulletin construction.”

The Minister also chose several contractors for poor performance and warned that the government would no longer tolerate such delays.

“What was inherited by Mr. President scary. Each region has a serious road challenge. Everything cannot be resolved in two or four years, but we are determined to make progress. The contractor who failed to give will not be punished,” added Umahi.
