The Nigerians have no poor business, says Obasanjo

Former president Olusgun Obasanjo said that the Nigerians do not have poor business with the country’s vast resources.

He said the nation is abundantly blessed but suffers from bad management of his resources.

Obasanjo said it at a dinner organized in his honor by the Abia government on Friday at the Government House, Umuaia.

He said: “The Nigerians have no business with poverty because God has given us everything we need.

“If we are rudding badly what God has given us, we do not have God to blame, we have ourselves to blame.”

The former president praised the efforts of the governor Alex Otti of Abia in transforming the state, noting the wide public success of his administration’s performance.

He said the impact of the governor on governance in the state and urged him to continue doing well.

Obasanjo added that if Nigeria had 18 governors who were well in their leaders’ responsibilities, “we will build the country”.

He reiterated his concern about the well -being of the Nigerians and the quality of the government they receive.

“For me, that you don’t greet me or greet you and you don’t answer, what is important for me is that the people of this country are getting what they deserve and what they deserve is a good government,” he said.

Obasanjo recalled a previous notice that gave the former transport minister, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, during his office mandate.

He said that Amaechi was not aware of a pre -existing national railway development plan and had to be directed to the archives to find it.

“I think even if you don’t like it, if I have a advice to give you, as I did when you were the Minister of Transport, I will give the advice.

“You didn’t know that we had a national plan for the railways for this country, to reach every state capital as we have them now and I told you to go to the archives, it’s there.

“But once again, I think as a transport minister, you had a little good, you were wrong.”

In his speech, the governor recognized the support he received from the former president.

He said that the importance of vision and perseverance in leadership could never be neglected, telling the challenges he had to face on his ten -year political journey.

“Once you have a vision, you have to keep it. It took ten years to get here, the two elections that we contested from 2015 to 2019, we have clearly won but have all been stolen.

“Many people had given up hope and said they wouldn’t work, but I was sure I had clearly heard from God,” he said.

He said his administration had undertaken enormous reforms in the education sector to improve access to quality education in Abia.

In addition, Amaechi invited the political actors to Abia to start the first preparations for the general elections of 2027.

According to him, the value of good administration was often made only after a less competent one takes over.

He stressed that this had become the experience with many former leaders, but Obasanjo had continually distinguished himself because of his style of visionary leadership.

“In your case, no matter who becomes president, you have always distinguished yourself,” said Amaechi.

He described the quality leadership as crucial for development and not to experience his absence, the people of Abia must support leaders capable as bearing in the next elections.

“APC and other parts are already mobilizing, if we do not prepare now, we could completely lose.

“We don’t just have to protect what we have, but also make sure to return in 2028 to celebrate true democratic success,” he added.

In separate speeches, the legislator represents Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Collegioncies, the head Ginger Owusi and the national secretary of the Labio del Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, expressed joy to be part of the success of Abia’s success.

They thanked Obasanjo for his continuous support for the administration led by Otti and praised the governor for the fairly evolutionary steps in all areas of the local government.
