A group under the auspices of the Northern Conscience Movement (NCM) has criticized the former Governor of the State of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai’s night for what he described as his sudden love and praise for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
NCM in a statement on Saturday issued by its coordinator, Lawal Nuhu Ahmed, said they had a strong objection to “confusing changes in political alignment” by El-Rufai who consistently condemned Atiku and the Democratic Party (PDP) in the past.
NCM wondered why former FCT ministers had to be modern Atiku lover who had labeled liars who were obsessed with power and were “haunted by the Corruption Devil.”
The group said that he found it ridiculous that the same El-Rufai would now raise Atiku, noting that the time and context of his new admiration for Atiku seemed more driven by political wisdom than sincere changes in heart.
NCM also warned not to interpret El-Rufai’s new admiration for Atiku and Buhari as a sign of a sincere reconciliation but was more a strategic step that aims to position itself well in political landscape.
“The evolution of El-Rufai’s rhetoric describes how personal interests can surpass the previous sentence, which leads to alliances that many people consider impossible,” NCM said in part.
“This phenomenon is not unique to El-Rufai, this is a wider symptom of a trend in Nigerian politics, where ideological consistency is often sacrificed in the altar of power and influence.

“By expanding the Olive Branch to Abubakar and Buhari, El-Rufai might indicate a willingness to collaborate with former rivals in pursuing common goals, but it is very important that the Nigerians remain aware of the opportunistic alliances.
“This maneuver is considered dishonest, damaging the integrity of political discourse in the region. In addition, this movement expressed concern over the acceptance of Buhari towards this coalition, considers it to be insensitive given the applicable political tension.
“Such actions can worsen the division rather than foster original collaboration, highlighting the political complexity of northern Nigeria in the increasingly polarized landscape.
“NCM believes that such political maneuvers damage the principles of transparency and accountability that are needed in Nigeria.
“As a northern conscience movement, we encourage political culture that respects sincere integrity, accountability, and dedication to the welfare of the people of Nigeria.
“We call on all political actors, including El-Rufai, to prioritize the interests of the nation rather than personal ambitions. The Nigerians deserve to get consistent leaders in their values and steadfast in their commitment to greater goodness.
“In the end, the action of past actions and the current alliance revealed a disturbing paradox in Nigerian politics, where the line between accountability and opportunism often escaped, making citizens to see the truth in the midst of the nobility of conflicting narratives,” added the group.
