Police operations in Akwa Ibom have arrested a health worker because of the alleged abortion that caused the death of a woman in the village of Ibesikpo Asutan, the regional government in the state.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Timfon John, revealed this on Thursday at UYO.

John said the arrest followed the report by the victim’s mother to the police.

He said: “A man was arrested for suspected illegal abortion which resulted in the death of a 35 -year -old woman around 21:30 on Tuesday, August 19.

“The victim’s neighbor, the employer, allegedly tried to throw away his body secretly in the deceased room, but escaped from the scene after he was confronted.

“At the time of arrival, the detectives observed the premature fetus that came out of the victim’s private section.

“Investigation further caused the arrest of the suspect, a resident of Afaha Offieng Village in NSIT IBOM.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim died due to alleged illegal abortion committed by the defendant.

“Further questions reveal that the suspect, who has and operates a full life center, is not a licensed medical doctor or nurse, but a public health practitioner.

“It is believed that he used the facility to perform illegal medical services and abortion. Since then the health center has been found quiet.”
