Below is the full Pope’s final agreement, signed June 29, 2022.
“When I felt the twilight approaching from my worldly life, and with strong hopes in eternal life, I wanted to set my last desire solely about my burial site.
“Throughout my life, and during my ministry as a priest and bishop, I always entrust myself to our Mother of Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary. For this reason, I ask that my mortal continue to rest – waiting for the resurrection day – in the Basilica of the Pada Mary Major.
“I hope my last worldly journey to end up right in the sacred place of this ancient Marian, where I will always stop praying at the beginning and end of every apostolic trip, confidently entrusting my intentions to the not fond, and grateful for her gentle and motherly care.
“I ask that my grave be prepared in the burial niche in the side alley between the pauline chapel (Populi Romani Salus chapel) and the Sforza Basilica chapel, as shown in the attached plan.
“The tomb must be on the ground; simple, without certain ornaments, only read: Franciscus.
“The funeral preparation fee will be borne by the amount provided by the Dermawan, which I have set to be transferred to the Basilica of the Pgasis Santo Mary Major.
“I have given the necessary instructions about this matter to Cardinal Rolandas Makrickas, the extraordinary commissioner of Liberia Basilica.
“May God give the right gift to all those who have loved me and who continue to pray for me.
“The suffering that marked the end of my life, I offered to God, for peace in the world and for brotherhood among people.”
