The curtain has officially fallen in the first African school games in Algiers, Algeria, which was a great celebration of youth, talent and continental unit.
The Nigeria team concluded the Olympic -style event, ending with an impressive 25 medals, comprising 6 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals in 10 different sports. Nigeria took fourth place in the registry behind the hosts Nation, Algeria, followed by Egypt and Tunisia.
At a symbolic moment during the closing ceremony, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) and hosts, Algeria formally delivered the flag of the host to Nigeria, which means the emergence of the country as the official host of the school games of the second African in 2027. This monumental achievement reinforces the position of Niger Africans and development.
Speaking after the Closing Ceremony, General Director of the Nigeria Sports Commission, Excmo. Bukola Olopade, praised athletes for their performance, discipline and representation of the nation.
“These games have shown us that the future of Nigerian sports is not only brilliant, but is unstoppable. Our young athletes have demonstrated courage, skill and heart. This exhibition will greatly contribute to prepare them for even greater stages.”
“African school games are more than competition; it is about building a generation that believes in unity, hard work and national pride. We are proud of each athlete, coach and officer who represented Nigeria with dignity and excellence.”
Beyond the medal count, Nigeria’s greatest victory lies in the exhibition and the experience that changes the life obtained by his athletes, many of whom carried national colors in an international scenario for the first time.
The games served as a powerful platform to promote emerging talents, while instilling the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship, and lighting the spirit of patriotism and ambition.
Excmo Olopade also extended the appreciation of the Algerian government already Anoca for the successful organization of the inaugural games, while ensuring that Nigeria will raise the bar in 2027, with an experience of world -class accommodation.
Upon his return to the country, the Nigeria team will be officially presented by the National Sports Commission, where athletes and officials will be held for their excellent performance. This special reception will precede other national ceremonies planned to honor and recognize the team’s achievements.
