The speaker of the Benue Assembly, Dajoh, resigns between political uncertainty

Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Dajoh ADONONE, he resigned from his position, just a year after taking the assignment.

Dajoh’s resignation were broadcast in a letter that personally signed and frequented on Sunday 24 August 2025. The letter, which was spotted since the time of the platform, was addressed to the members of the Assembly.

“I write to resign as a speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, effective today, 24 August 2025. This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state”, the letter reads partly.

The outgoing speaker expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the trust rested in him, describing his mandate as a privilege of serving as “first of the same”.

He also engaged loyalty to his legislative responsibilities, observing that he would remain committed to representing the people of the electoral college of the western state of Gboko.

Although Dajoh has not indicated specific reasons for his sudden resignation, the insiders have hinted the growing political pressure within the assembly, which in recent months has been polarized by intense leadership tasle.

His resignation marks a significant development in Benue’s policy, as he could open the way for new realms of power in the state assembly.

Dajoh emerged in June 2023 after a highly contested leadership race, which saw him defeat other contenders in the midst of disputes.

Its sudden exit should trigger a new debate on the stability of the legislative arm in the state.

At the time of the presentation of this report, the members of the Assembly were already organizing emergency consultations to elect a new speaker.
