A man suspected of stabbing to death a Muslim worshipers in a mosque in France is still generally the day after the attack, said the authorities.
The incident, which occurred on Friday in the former Mining City of La Grand-Combe, in southern France, was described as “Islamophobia” by Prime Minister Francois Bayrou.
President Emmanuel Macron said the victim was “killed with a terrible”, in a statement posted on social media.
The two men were alone in the mosque when the suspect attacked.
The attacker reportedly recorded attacks on the telephone and the recording of his safety showed him shouting insults to “Allah”, which means God in Arabic, local media reported.
Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin called him “despicable murder” which “hurt all believers, from all Muslims in France”.
Bayrou added: “We stand with people who are loved by victims and with shocked believers.”
The Paris Great Mosque condemned the attack and said the victim had just finished cleaning the mosque when he was killed.

It asked the authorities to say whether the attack was treated as a “terrorist” act.
