The tragedy in Sokoto when dozen is feared to die in a ship accident

The Sokoto state plunged into sadness on Sunday after a passenger ship overturned in Kojiyo Ward, the Goronyo Regional Government area, making many people afraid of death and several others were lost.

The boat, which transports dozens of residents across the river, is reportedly going in the middle of the trip, resulting in heavy victims and loss of property.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Abubakar, said the tragedy claimed several lives while many passengers remained countless as search and rescue operations continued until the end of the day.

“This is indeed a big tragedy for our community,” another resident told reporters, describing the Kojiyo atmosphere as tense and sad.

Although the number of victims who have definitely have not been confirmed, Prayer -DoA has been offered to those who are feared, and sympathizers continue to visit families who are grieving.

Confirming the development, an official from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, who asked not to be named, said: “I have just heard of the incident. Both the Nema and SEMA teams have mobilized to the scene and will soon release an official statement.”

The authorities have assured that further details will be published when the rescue efforts increase and the full scale of the tragedy becomes clearer.
