The troops arrested 17 suspected oil thieves, unloading nine illegal refineries in Niger Delta

The troops attached to 6 divisions, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have arrested 17 alleged oil thieves and dismantled nine illegal purification locations in Delta Niger.

Deputy Director of Acting, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, revealed this in a statement on Sunday at Port Harcourt.

He said the troops also found 45,000 liters of stolen oil products in 12 -day operations carried out between 8 and 20 September in collaboration with other security agents.

The statement read: “In Delta State, the Troops Uncovered a Large Storage Facility in Ogwu, Warri South Local Government Area, Containing Over 20,000 Litres of Automotive Gas Oil (ago), Pumping and Metering Machines, Engine Oil, Empty Storage Tanks, And a 20000-Litre Capacity Tank Truck with Registration Number Ben 223 ZW, Edo State, Loaded with more than 10,000 Litres of Illegally Refined Diesel.

“Likewise, in the state of Bayelsa, security operators destroyed two illegal purification locations and three resting rooms around Biseni in Yenagoa LGA, which contained more than 7,000 liters of stolen products. In Okordia, also in Yenagoa, troops that stopped the Toyota Camry with ASB 71 Bg Carrying 600 lit.

At the Rivers State, the army patrolling around the occarks in Ahoada West Lga intercepted the Toyota 4runner SUV, the registration number of GBB 331 AE, carrying 1,600 liters of stolen diesel. The driver reportedly escaped after seeing the troops. Further confiscation in LGA Ogbogolo, Degema, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni includes sacks that are enhanced, a wooden boat that is loaded with stolen products, and evidence of pipe vandalism in OBIA oil fields, where 500 liters of condensate are stolen.

“The troops also expanded operations to the state of Akwa Ibom, where they combed the famous smuggling route and disrupted illegal purification activities, effectively denied the oil thief of freedom of acting in the area.”

The Nigerian army described the operation as a “significant advantage” in the ongoing campaign against the economic sabotage in Delta Niger.
