The troops arrested 49 suspected oil thieves, destroying 22 illegal refineries in Niger Delta

The Delta Safe operation forces have arrested 49 alleged oil thieves and destroyed 22 illegal purification locations last week.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major. Markus Kangye, revealed this in the weekly report on the ongoing military operation by the Nigerian armed forces on Friday in Abuja.

Kangye said the troops for a week thwarted oil theft worth estimated the number of N869.2 million.

The details, according to him, showed that 325,990 liters of stolen crude oil, 24,645 liters of automotive gas oil that were illegally enhanced (then) and 19,500 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 1,600 liters of engine oil recovered.

He said: “In addition, the troops found and destroyed 86 oven of crude oil cooking, 181 recess holes, 25 ships, speedboats, 18 storage tanks, 316 drums and 22 illegal purification locations.

“Other restored items include generator set, jack, galvanized pipes, pump engines, drilling machines, rickshaws, motorbikes, cellphones and 18 vehicles.”

Kangye said the military, in collaboration with other security institutions, continued to show courage, discipline, and professionalism in dealing with developing security threats.

He added that the troops killed several terrorist suspects, rescued the hostages, arrested the suspect, and restored weapons and ammunition for a week.

“Our operations continue in various operating theater consisting of northeast, northwest, north-middle, south-south and other areas where criminals try to disturb peace and stability.

“The troops remain committed to their constitutional responsibility to protect Nigerian territorial sovereignty, unity and integrity, as well as ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

“Between April 3 and April 10, the troops found a large number of arms, including various types of machine guns, RPG tubes, automatic weapons, and weapons made locally and improvised explosives.

“In addition, the large cache of ammunition 7.62mm and 9mm religious, and living cartridges are also found,” the spokesman added.
