The Ukrainian exhibition in Nigeria shows 3 years of resilience in the middle of the war with Russia, condemns the recent attack
Abuja (Reporter Core) The Ukraine Embassy in Nigeria has condemned the recent killings of civilians by Russia after launching missiles and drones.
The Embassy frowned the attacks while housed the association of the correspondent of Nigeria (Dican) correspondent in Abuja to an exhibition that showed a series of more surprising photographs taken during the war, reflecting the resilience of the Ukrainian people, their struggles and their hopes with the theme “three years of resilience: Ukraine in photography.”
The Ukrainian ambassador to Nigeria, his excellence Ivan Kholostenko, who virtually spoke of Kiev, said that the assault, conducted on the night of August 28, 2025, caused at least 18 lives, including four children the youngest not yet three years and has damaged the premises of the European Union delegation in Kyiv.
Describing the strike as a violation of international law, he said: “The killing of children is the most serious of crimes, which requires a solid international condemnation and responsibility. Russia is a terrorist state and we invite all international countries and organizations to formally recognize this status. We have urged our partners throughout Africa to intensify the pressure on Russia.”
The solemn ceremony previously opened a register of condolences in memory of those killed in recent attacks, followed by a diplomatic dialogue with Nigerian journalists.
The Ukrainian console, Mr. Oleksi Samillo, he praised Nigeria as an open, laborious “related nation” and the focusing development, while underlining the determination of Ukraine to continue to contribute to global partnership despite the current war.
“We are as open as Nigeria. We are ready as Nigeria. We are developing our country, even if we continue to defend it,” he said. “Despite the challenges, we are still contributing from agriculture to it and to industrial collaboration”.
He also underlined the long history and cultural identity of Ukraine, “Kiev was founded more than 1,500 years ago. We adopted Christianity in 988 and for over a thousand years, our culture reflected on this heritage. Ukrainian independence declared this historical tradition in 1991 in 1991”.
The event also characterized a tribute to the victims of the recent Missilistic strike in Russia. “We are free. We are Ukrainians,” said Samillo, his stable voice of emotion.
As part of the exhibition, the journalists saw authentic images, artifacts, banners and patches sent by the symbols at the forefront of the resistance in progress of Ukraine by the Russian invasion on a large scale in February 2022
Mr. Idehai Frederick, president of the Diplomatic Association of Nigeria (Dican), has promised media support in guaranteeing careful, equitable, balanced and professional coverage of the Ukrainian diplomatic presence in Nigeria.
“We are engaged in the best international practices in journalism, equity, balance and professionalism,” he said. “Our association includes all the main media in Nigeria and we are ready to support diplomatic efforts to make the world a better place.”
Mr. Idehai also underlined the need for collaboration in counteracting disinformation. He announced that plans were underway for a training program for Nigerian diplomatic correspondents on how to identify disinformation and false news to promote a stronger cooperation with the diplomatic community.
“What we need is a correct and collaborative partnership,” he underlined. “Together, we can amplify the truth, support development and build lasting relationships.”
The event ended with a moment of silence for the victims of the war, followed by a guided tour of an exhibition on culture, landscapes and history in Ukrainian war time showing the resilience and pride of the Ukrainian people while they continue to defend their sovereignty while they build internees.
