The Zulum government reiterates the determination to protect Borno from the takeover

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has reiterated his unrucky commitment to ensure that there is no part of the country that surrendered to Boko Haram or Iswap rebels, in the midst of new concerns over attacks in the region.

Speaking to journalists on Monday after a closed meeting with the President of the Tinubu Soccer at the President’s villa, Governor Zulum described the recent security development in Borno and the wider northeastern region as an alarming, but cannot be overcome. His visit followed the attack on last week’s attack at Marte, a city that was vulnerable to the threat of rebels.

“I came here to give direction to the President about the security situation in Borno, especially the new attack on Marte,” Zulum said. “I also appealed to greater federal support and I was happy to report that some actions had been taken.”

Zulum acknowledged that the Nigerian armed forces had made fast and strategic decisions to prevent further escalation. One of the main proposals reviewed, he was revealed, was the establishment of a forest protector to increase supervision and control in remote areas used as a hiding place by rebels.

“It will be a game-Changer,” he said. “Some of these rebels have very sophisticated weapons. The federal government is working on a strategy to fight it, and the President has convinced me of its full support.”

The Governor, who has received a reputation for his direct approach to governance in the conflict zone, emphasized that state -level efforts will also increase. “We do not give in. We will strengthen local resilience, mobilize volunteers, and complete the efforts of the armed forces,” he added.

Zulum also issued a call to act: “There is no local government in Borno that will fall into the hands of the rebels. We all must, civil authorities, security forces, and the community, rise and defend our land.”

The statement came when the northern community continued to bear the consequences of more than one decade of rebellion, with thousands of infrastructure that was moved and critical of being destroyed. But for Zulum, protecting every inch of Borno still cannot be negotiated.

“I believe, God willing, with continuous support from the armed forces, we will stand firmly,” he concluded.
