‘This is inhumane and short-sighted’, PRP spokesperson slams Bauchi government over demolition of market stalls

Comrade People’s Redemption Party (PRP) acting publicity secretary, Muhammad Ishaq, has condemned the recent demolition of market stalls, temporary market buildings, containers and stalls in Maiduguri, the Bauchi State capital.

Ishaq described the action carried out “under the supervision of Governor Bala Muhammad” as “a stark reminder of his callous and misguided leadership”.

The opposition leader who spoke through a statement made available to Ripples Nigeria on Sunday, said that “this draconian act is unfortunate, as the country is already reeling from the adverse effects of economic hardship, making it a recipe for overcoming an economic crisis.” disaster”.

He lamented that thousands of families were struggling to survive, and many of them relied on the same market stalls and buildings that had been destroyed.

“This loss of livelihood has plunged many families into poverty, leaving them without a safety net to support their lives. The governor’s actions have exacerbated an already precarious situation, pushing thousands of people into uncertainty and despair.

“It is appalling that Governor Bala Muhammad prioritized the renovation of his government house and the construction of a flyover at an exorbitant cost of N6.2 billion and N20 billion respectively, while leaving his citizens to fend for themselves in a state without industry. Bauchi State is one of the poorest states in Nigeria, no company or factory employs more than 500 people. The lack of productive industry is a reflection of the governor’s misplaced priorities.

“Instead of focusing on alleviating the suffering of his people, Governor Bala Muhammad chose to spend his money on unnecessary projects such as flyovers and subsidized Hajj pilgrimages. His leadership was characterized by disregard for the well-being and well-being of the people. By prioritizing big projects over the basic needs of his citizens, he has shown a lack of empathy and compassion.

“Moreover, his claim that demolition is necessary for safety reasons is ludicrous. By depriving people of their means of survival and leaving them unemployed, it has created a situation that will undoubtedly lead to even worse security problems. The governor’s actions are a perfect example of how misguided leadership can create more problems than it solves.

“In short, the demolition of market stalls carried out by Governor Bala Muhammad was not only inhumane but also inhumane. The people of Bauchi State deserve better from their leaders. They deserve a governor who will prioritize their welfare and well-being above all else. Until then, we will continue to suffer under his misguided leadership.”

The PRP scribe further provided recommendations on ways to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the demolition, calling for the immediate provision of alternative means for those affected by the demolition, and prioritizing industry and job creation initiatives to alleviate poverty.

He also advocates reducing unnecessary spending on large projects, and a shift in focus towards improving the well-being and well-being of society.

“It is time for Governor Bala Muhammad to take responsibility for his actions and work towards creating a better future for the people of Bauchi State. “Anything less than that is unacceptable,” he concluded.
