Ticad9: Tinubu calls for permanent African representatives at the UN Security Council

The President of the Tinubu Soccer has renewed the call for reforms at the United Nations (UN), urged Africa to be given permanent representatives at the Security Council.

Speaking on Wednesday at the plenary session on peace and stability during the 9th Tokyo International Conference on the Development of Africa (Ticad9) in Yokohama, Japan, Tinubu said the continent deserves two permanent seats with full privileges and privileges, including the power of Veto. He further argued for additional seats that are not permanent for Africa in line with the consensus of Ezulwini and Sirtre Declaration.

“This is Nigeria’s view that the search for Africa for just and fair representatives in the UN Security Council is a fair and fair request,” Tinubu said. “Indeed, Africa deserves two seats in the permanent category, with all its prerogative and special rights, including veto rights.”

The President also praised the new achievement from the Nigerian armed forces in fighting the rebellion and crime, describing their success as “a jump for national development and stability.” However, he stressed that eternal peace cannot be achieved solely through military victory without overcoming poverty, inequality, and exception.

“The Nigerian brave armed forces can win a number of battles, but we do justice for their heroism only when we, as government, dare to overcome not only terror but also the underlying cause,” said Tinubu.

He appointed a new peace agreement in the Democratic Republic of Congo as proof that mediation efforts, when related to economic investment, could produce durable results. According to him, competition for resources historically weakens African countries and triggers conflicts, but a new approach that connects peace development with development has begun to produce results.

“This works and underlines the need for new thoughts in everything we do to provide peace and stability,” he said.

The President further requested the partnership driven by the cross-border market, urged African countries and development partners to move beyond what he described as “stale appeal for assistance and gift.”
