Tik Tok moves to control GBVs facilitated by technology

Tiktok, an online entertainment platform, claims to have given priority to online safety through the partnership on gender violence (TFGBV) made by technology, in particular for women in the media sector.

The official spoke on the sidelines of a round table in collaboration with Center for Analytics and Behavoral Change (CABC) Wednesday in Abuja.

Freedomonline reports that Tik Tok is convening a series of women in the media safety roundtable in sub-Saharan Africa to deepen collective understanding and guide as part of his commitment to safety and inclusiveness.

Mkhize said that the digital panorama evolves women and vulnerable communities continued to face unique online threats that could limit their expression and participation.

He said that the Women on average Safety Roundtables represented a tangible step in Tiktok’s wider mission to encourage a safer and more inclusive environment in sub-Saharan Africa.

He explained that the round tables had to listen to people with lived experiences, learn from local communities and build solutions together.

He said that through the open dialogue, the shared intuitions and the impossible Tiktok solutions was reaffirming his commitment to build a platform that raises and protects its different communities.

“Tiktok undertakes to learn from those who are at the forefront, including local journalists and media professionals, in order to evolve its security tools, policies and application strategies.

“We believe that to truly understand our local community, we must first understand their world.

“We recognize the diversity of our global community and the importance of understanding what it helps to feel safe.

“While we learn more, we do more. We appreciate the participation of the Nigerian media industry in helping to create a safe and creative platform; not only for content creators, but for all users,” he said.

The executive director, Center for Analytics and Behavoral Change (CABC), Kim Thipe said that by facing Tfgbv requested deep listening, data based on data and collaboration between the sectors.

“Through these seminars, we are bringing together the experiences of women in the media with strategies supported by the research to co-creating more secure digital environments.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Tiktok in this important initiative that places voices of the community and local context at the center of online security.” Thipe said.

Senior Special Assistant of President Bola Tinubu, on the involvement of the community, in the central region of the North, dr. Inhabitun Essiet said that the Tfgbv attack requested a united front.

Essiet said that Tiktok’s commitment was accepted to work alongside the government, civil society and interested parties in the sector to build safer digital spaces.

“We praise Tiktok’s proactive commitment with professionals in the media space and creators, through these round security tables.

“Authorizing women to participate fully and safely in the media is not just a digital question, it is a democratic imperative,” he said.

Freedomonline also reports that the round tables bring together journalists, digital security experts, civil society, regulators and content creators to encourage a multi-stakeholder approach that supports women’s voices in the media while building safer online communities.
