Timi Dakolo shares his thoughts on artists who create music just for their fans

Nigerian gospel and R&B singer Timi Dakolo has shared his thoughts on the debate surrounding artistes creating music primarily for the enjoyment of their large fan base.

Dakolo, who shared his perspective in a recent podcast, stated that one must be able to enjoy and digest what one creates before presenting it to others who will consume it.

“For me, I have a rule that you make music for yourself because the food you want to give to someone should be something you can enjoy yourself,” the musician said.

The husky-voiced singer stressed that his top priority is to create music that he loves, and that ultimately, the audience will appreciate what he has to offer.

“You are the first person to play it, the idea is yours, the motivation is yours, and the essence of the idea is presented to you, so the first person to come up with the idea is you. If you do it for someone else, then you miss the whole point.

”A good product convinces people. A good product is more convincing than asking people to come and listen to your music. If the product is good, people will accept it,” he noted.
