Tinubu chose the former Chairman of the Local Council to lead the NERC

President Tinubu Bola has nominated Mr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as Chair/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC).

Special advisors about information and strategies to the President, Bayo Onanuga, revealed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Ramat, 39, is an electric engineer with a PhD title in strategic management and broad administrative experience.

President Tinubu also nominated two new commissioners to the NERC council.

Mr. Abubakar Yusuf was appointed as a commissioner for consumer affairs, while Dr. Fouad Animashun was appointed as a commissioner for financial and management services.

All nominations are subject to the confirmation of the senate.

However, to avoid leadership vacuum in the Critical Regulatory Agency, the President directed that the Ramat took positions in acting capacity while waiting for the screening of the film by the Senate, as regulated by the law.

Ramat served as Chair of the area of the Ungogo Regional Government, Kano state, from 2021 to 2024. He was a multidisciplinary professional and strategic governance expert.

“He holds a PhD in strategic management from Lincoln University, Masters in the fields of electronics and telecommunications engineering from India, and B.Eng in the field of electrical engineering from Bayero University, Kano.

“Thus he brought a unique combination of engineering expertise, public sector innovation, and digital transformation insights for the commission.

“The president urges new people appointed to use their knowledge and experience to release their functions and work diligently to advance the vision of the administrative power sector.

“This appointment is part of the brave encouragement of the Tinubu government to overhaul the Nigerian energy sector and fast universal electricity access,” the statement added.
