President Bola Tinubu received with deep pain the tragic news of an accident that involved members of the contingent of the state of Kano who were returning from the recent national sports festival in the state of Ogun.
On behalf of the Federal Government, the President extends the heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of the State of Kano, as well as to the families and people dear of those who died in the accident.
“This is a devastating blow for the nation. He launches a shadow on the National Sports Festival, a celebration of units, talent and excellence. It has long been served as a platform to discover and feed the athletes who bring pride to Nigeria in the national and international phases,” said the president.
President Tinubu made homage to the victims of the accident, whose dedication and aspirations in their various vocations embodied the resilient Nigerian spirit.
He said that the greatest honor that the country can grant them is to adopt concrete measures to prevent such tragedies in the future and improve safety standards in the nation transport systems.
The president prayed for the peaceful rest of the souls of the deceased and asked the Almighty God to grant strength and comfort to families in mourning.
In a related development, President Tinubu expressed profound concern for serious floods in the area of ββthe local government of Mokwa in the state of the Niger, which led to the loss of human lives and the displacement of numerous families.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the good people of the State of Niger in this difficult moment,” said the president on his X Hands on Friday evening.
After receiving the initial relationships, President Tinubu directed the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Center and has since been completely informed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on the disaster scale and the urgent humanitarian needs.
Research and rescue operations are underway and all relevant federal agencies have been mobilized to support the response of the government of the state of the Niger. Rescue materials and temporary refuges are distributed without delay.
“I assure all those who have had an impact that our government is with you. We will continue to coordinate with the government of the state of the Niger to guarantee a quick, coordinated and compassionate response, one that gives priority to life, restores dignity and accelerates recovery,” said the president.
President Tinubu also ordered the security agencies to assist in emergency operations and has commissioned that Nema and the response center to national emergencies provide coordination and continuous updates.
He invited all the Nigerians to maintain the people of Mokwa in their thoughts and prayers.
“In times of adversity, we draw strength from our unity, resilience and shared humanity,” said the president in a personal declaration.
