President Bola Tinubu directed the implementation of the long -awaited pension increase and the launch of free health care for low -income pensioners pursuant to the Pension program collaborated (CPS).
He gave the directive during a briefing by the general manager of the National Pension Commission (Pencom), Omolola Olowraran.
The president approved an increase in the average pension of ₦ 32,000, with a minimum pension warranty implemented to support the most vulnerable pensioners.
He underlined the need for immediate action to relieve financial pressure on retirees who face the increase in living costs.
Tinubu also ordered Pencom to urgently solve the retirement police problem, stating that those who served the country in uniform must be able to retire with dignity and tranquility.
During the meeting, the DG Pence shared updates on efforts to protect pension activities from inflation and economic instability.
He also introduced a plan to allow the Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to the pension regime using the foreign currency.
The president welcomed the reforms, reformulating the goal of his government to support inclusive wellness policies for all Nigerians, in particular the elderly and vulnerable.
