Tinubu: how wike asked me to remove FCT from TSA to Devt

President Bola Tinubu explained that the minister of the territory of the federal capital, Nyesom Wike, asked him to remove the FCT from the single account of the Treasury (TSA) to accelerate the development and improve the participation of residents in governance.

Tinubu said that the bureaucracy associated with TSA hindered the growth of infrastructures in the capital and has had to be reviewed for impact and progress.

The president said so while receiving the residents of FCT, led by Wike, at the presidential villa of Abuja for homage to Salvasche on Sunday 30 March 2025.

He stressed that the liberation of the EFCT from TSA restrictions quickly catalyzed improvements in infrastructure, improved health services and increased safety measures.

Tinubu said: “I remember the day when the Minister of FCT came to meet me and said, please take us out of the TSA problem so that he can do more work and get more. I said to show me what you are about to do and presented his thought and his belief.

“And everything started to change quickly. I started seeing the opening of the rural areas by the FCT, the resuscitation of abandoned projects and the completion of the official residence of the vice -president who was abandoned for years. The FCT has rehabilitated the health centers, updated the structures for school children and supplied furniture.”

The president Tinubu thanked Wike for showing that liberation from bureaucracy was necessary and for the renovation of the public service FCT so that public employees could aspire to higher positions and provide leadership.

“We would not have been able to open the mouth to celebrate except because of the progressive ideas you led to FCT. Now we can celebrate the innovative ideas brought to the FCT,” said Tinubu.

Tinubu urged FCT residents and other Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious colors in their leadership choices and focus more on the results.

The president added: “Today we live in peace and security is improving. Hunger is going down. Food prices are lowering. We can go to the market and do business. And our diversity and belief in ourselves are becoming stronger.

“We are not looking for magic. We are looking for results. We are looking for comfort. We are praying for good health. We are looking for someone I care.

“Work does not only concern wike or me, but everyone. Nyesom Wike is demonstrating the diversity of Nigeria. He has strengthened that diversity to develop prosperity, showing us that we are all members of a family, who live together in the same house, in different rooms and under the same roof.”

For his part, the Minister of FCT thanked Tinubu for hosting the residents in the state chamber.

Wike promised his loyalty to the president and undertaken to develop the capital of the nation, ensuring that the FCT would soon complete many projects.

“Despite our various backgrounds, we are united in our constant support for your administration and the renewed agenda of hope,” he added.

The vice -president, Kashim Shettimo, the National Security Councilor, Nuhu Ribadu and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, participated in the ceremony.

The FCT delegation included members of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, of the Religious and Traditional Leaders, Heads of Security and groups of women and young people.
