Tinubu receives Alaafin Owoade, says “your rise to the throne of your fathers is historical”

*President Tinubu receives Alaafin Oyo, looking for greater collaboration with traditional leaders

President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, said that traditional institutions remain an integral part of the country’s development and has asked for greater support in the implementation of policies that directly affect the sustenance of people.

The president spoke when he received the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Abdulhakeem Owoade I, his wife inhawwumi and a delegation of other traditional sovereigns of the state of Oyo in the presidential villa of Abuja.

President Tinubu congratulated the Alaafin for his ascent to the historical throne, ensuring the real father of his prayers and support.

“It is a great joy for me and a great honor. Your rise to the throne of your fathers is historical. It is the will of God and the heart of the people.

“I am following your foresight for development, your humility and the fact that you support the traditions of your people.

“The inherited tradition is the creation of the omnipotent God. Your rise to the throne – like my becoming a president – is the divine will of the Almighty God,” he said.


The president observed that “obstacles, processes and anxiety” along the road were part of the preparation for the position.

President Tinubu praised the traditional council to facilitate the appointment and crown of the 46th Alaafin after the disappearance of Oba Lamidi Adeymi on April 22, 2022.

“I am happy that you have shown character and discipline and raised the name, values ​​and culture of your people, even when you were in Canada. I am happy that you have become a hope of supporting the Yoruba breed,” he added.

The president said that his administration will continue to work with traditional institutions to implement policies to protect and thrive citizens.

“The peace and stability of our nation require inclusiveness. This work is not one that you can do alone. We have to put ourselves together to build a nation of prosperity.

“Our priority is still education and medicine. We want to raise education and cultural values. Our door is open to participation,” he said.

President Tinubu told the king that the children of the kingdom of Oyo who serve in his office exceptionally well, including ambassador Victor Adeleke, head of the state protocol, and colonel Nurudeen Aloowonle Yusuf, the assistant-champion.

Yusuf is the designated king of Ilemonaland in the local council of Oyun, in the state of Kwara, who traces his ancestors to the kingdom of Oyo.

In his observations, Alaafin has ensured the president of the support of the traditional Council in providing his mandate to the people.

“Today I speak not only as the custodian of culture and tradition, but as a voice for my people, who are deeply honored by the public that you have granted us here at the center of the national leadership.

“Your kind welcome is more than a protocol. It is a sign of your character, statesman and respect for traditional institutions. The people of Oyo remember your journey as a man who has risen through the crogiolo of political struggle with a courage and unparalleled charity. You have won many hearts as an activist, strategist, Bridge Builder and now as the leader of the nation.”

The monarch said the Nigerians look at the president for a new direction.

“Nigeria looks at you, not only for the leadership but for the restoration. For a new vision rooted in justice, equity and inclusive progress. It is in that spirit that I have come to look for your collaboration. Oyo is ready, Yoruba are ready and the Nigerians are ready,” he added.

The king praised the president for bold economic reforms, infrastructure development, institution of social well -being, youth empowerment and improvement of safety and investments in agriculture.

“We understand that national transformation is not only for the government. It is built when ancient wisdom meets the modern government. When the institutions, old and new, work by hand in the hand,” he said.
