President Bola Tinubu said that his administration does not exist a plan to transform Nigeria into a single party state.
By contacting a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja to commemorate this year’s democracy day, Tinubu underlined his commitment to strengthen democracy.
“I am not going to transform Nigeria into a unique state. I have never changed the recording of any political party in Illo. I will be the last person to support such a thing,” said Tinubu.
He expressed his will to welcome the people who wish to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu has announced the transfer of honorary prizes on remarkable figures, including the deceased Kudirat Abiola, Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, General Shehu Yar’adua and Ken Saro-Wiwa.
“While we mark this day of democracy, we honor the memories of those who fought for our democracy and those who have contributed to its growth,” he said.
The president highlighted the progress made in the democratic journey of Nigeria, including the issue of inflation, the stabilization of the Naira exchange rate and the increase in revenue.
He also underlined the commitment of his administration in achieving food sovereignty through agricultural reforms and providing opportunities to young people through the acquisition of skills and the creation of jobs.
The president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and the president of the Chamber of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen praised the leadership and economic reforms of Tinubu.
Akpabio described the national assembly as a bastion of democracy and reiterated his will to collaborate with the executive to face the complex issues of Nigeria.
