President Bola Tinubu has ordered the suspension of the newly introduced cashless payment system at the country’s airports.
This follows reports of traffic jams experienced by travelers across the country.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Tinubu on Wednesday in Abuja.
He noted that the policy had caused severe congestion and hardship for travellers, particularly at Lagos and Abuja airports.

According to him, the cashless system was introduced to eradicate corruption and increase transparency in revenue collection.
“The idea of implementing a cashless system is to eradicate corruption at the airport.
“However, with the introduction of this system, it has created a lot of traffic jams and Nigerians are suffering because of the delays,” the minister said.
He added that the President directed an immediate return to previous payment arrangements while waiting for improvements.
“The President directed us to suspend the current system because it will cause a lot of traffic jams.
“He said we have to go back to the status quo and fine-tune the system properly,” Keyamo explained.
He said the President directed that a review of the platform be carried out as soon as possible.
