Tinubu tasked the governor with handling food security

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday urged state governors to work together to meet the needs of Nigerians.

The President, who spoke at a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) in Abuja, said he would provide the necessary support to ensure that Nigerians are free from hardship.

He said the country must increase agricultural productivity, strengthen the economy by creating opportunities in the real sectors of agriculture, manufacturing and construction, and provide urgent economic assistance to the Nigerian people.

Tinubu said the Sokoto-Badagry Highway is an important project because the states in the axis form the country’s food belt, and Badagry is an important artery for food exports.

The president said: “Our countries must work together to implement the vital reforms that are required of us to meet the needs of our people. Time is the most valuable human asset. We can never have enough of it. It is too late.

“We are ready and able to support you in the form of mechanization of agricultural processes and provision of high-quality seeds.

“We are ready to provide solar-powered irrigation facilities to support our farmers throughout the season, but now we have to produce.

“There is nothing more important to us than producing high-quality food for our communities to consume, buy and sell.

“We create jobs in its production. And that’s before we generate wealth by exporting the surplus. It is not impossible for us to achieve this for the Nigerian people.

“How much support do you need from me and in what form? I am ready to provide it. But we have to achieve results. We have to achieve our targets at all levels.

“Please report back after your consultation and submit it to my office within seven days.”

President Tinubu approved the immediate launch of the National Construction and Household Support Program to cover all geopolitical zones in the country.
