Tinubu urges media influencers to encourage unity, not the division, check before amplify

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu invited young Nigerians active in the digital media space to exploit their platforms as national progress tools.

He urged them to build companies that create employment, produce content that reflect unifying values and act as positive catalysts for the development of society. He underlined the fundamental importance of checking the information before amplifying it.

At the opening of the summit for the digital media of the progressives, he “revealed the critical role of the new media in national development,” said President Tinubu:

“Your generation has recognized this moment. You are using digital tools to innovate, educate and ask for responsibility. But as your influence grows, even our collective sense of purpose and responsibility.

“I urge you to continue using digital platforms to advance the progress of our nation. Building companies that use others. Create content that rise and combine. Use your influence to encourage unity, not the division.”

He praised the creativity and resilience of Nigeria’s youth while describing digital media as a driving force of economic and social transformation.

It is no longer just an accessory for life, he said.

“From the development of innovative platforms to the construction of lively online community, you are demonstrating the determination that is redefining what is possible for this country.

“You are not waiting for the future; you are building it. Digital media are now a central factor of economic growth, civic commitment and social change. The representation for those who previously unprecedented is wide.”

The president said that his administration undertakes to support digital innovation through the National Digital Innovation Fund and the policies that promote a flourishing start -up ecosystem. However, he warned practitioners to remain vigilant against disinformation and computer threats.

The head of the president’s staff, Femi Gbajabiamilaila, praised digital media professionals who have constantly defended Nigeria and projected the nation positively on the global phase:

“You are the avant -garde of a reborn Nigeria, determined to reach the stars. Under the leadership of President Tinubu, our nation has started its long -lasting march towards the size. The road could be demanding, but is necessary,” he said.

In a message of goodwill, the president’s special consultant for information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the meaning of the summit. He noticed that the lessons of the recent elections in countries such as the United States and Germany underline how digital media have become the crucial battlefields beyond simple entertainment for having modeled the survey results.

“However, social media are not a fair battlefield. As a public square, they are often chaotic and unregulated. Users often ignore the rules. The divisive content is rampant. The depths and contents generated by the AI are increasingly used against political opponents. The posts are guided by clicks, not by truth or accuracy. Diffusion of plants faster than official corrections.” ONANUGA observed.

He expressed optimism that the summit would face these challenges, focusing on strategies to fight false news and disinformation.

The summit converse, Segun Dada, special assistant of the president on the new media, underlined that in less than a decade, digital media have evolved from a personal connection tool in a powerful engine for communication, innovation and influence.

He underlined the importance of exploiting this force for the good of Nigeria, managing intrinsic risks such as privacy concerns and threats to social cohesion.
