President Bola Ahmed Tinubu invited the Nigerians to the diaspora to contribute with their skills and resources to the consolidation of national development and to the construction of a stronger and prosperous country.
President Tinubu called Thursday at Kahala Hotel and Resort, Yokohama, Japan, during an interactive meeting with selected members of the Nigerian community on the sidelines of the Tokyo international conference on African development (Ticad9).
The meeting, which brought together professionals and entrepreneurs in various sectors, allowed the president to share the results of his administration and ensure their commitment to guide economic growth.
President Tinubu expressed joy to meet those who described as a vibrant representation of Nigerian diversity, ensuring the community of the diaspora that his government is determined to make the country driver for all citizens.
The president invited the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, and the executive vice -president of Nasens, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, to talk about the government’s programs and results. Wale Tinubu, the president’s nephew, provided information on how government reforms influenced the economy positively making companies more competitive, attracting investments and expanding the share market.
President Tinubu said that Nigeria is again increasing under his guide. He reiterated that leadership concerns “thought and doing”, merge visionary ideas with practical actions to guide stability, unity and growth.
He noticed significant improvements in the emission of the passport, making the process seamlessly for residents and diaspora. He has reaffirmed the priority of his administration to create an environment in which each Nigerian can feel the positive impact of change.
“I am happy to listen to you. I am happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some people could decide to stay away; it is a fundamental right of the individual, but for the economic growth and the opportunities available in Nigeria, not stay away. Your contribution is very necessary. If you stay away, who will build it?” He asked for the president.
President Tinubu stressed that national development cannot be left to government alone; It requires a sense of responsibility shared between citizens at home and those abroad.
He urged the diaspora community to remain ambassadors of the country by projecting Nigeria positively in their commitments abroad.
“If we do not unite our hands and work together, then we lost hope of being the leaders we should be,” he warned.
He reminded his audience that the strength of citizenship is not only in keeping a Nigerian passport but in the character and commitment for the progress of the nation.
According to him, the negative portraits of Nigeria make little to advance the cause of development and discourage the investments and partnerships that the country needs.
As for the economy, Tinubu has assured us that his administration has stabilized the key fundamentals and is guiding the reforms to unlock immense investment opportunities and creation of jobs.
He said the government also reversed the trend of medical tourism by updating health infrastructures and expanding access to quality services at home.
Some Nigerians in Japan expressed their satisfaction for the rhythm of government reforms, affirming their support. They also committed themselves to exploring the avenues for greater involvement in the economic and social transformation of Nigeria.
Mr. Embo Ebogota, president of the Nigerian Union in Japan, thanked President Tinubu for finding time to meet them. He affirmed the support of his members for the administration’s efforts to reposition Nigeria. Other important participants included John Ologbatsre, winner of the Japanese National Prize for electrotechnical standardization; Mr. Kingsley Kabuyashi, entrepreneur and investor; and entrepreneurs, doctors and students.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the ambassador Yusuf Tuggar were also present; Accusing business, Mrs. Florence Akinyemi Adeseke; Minister of Solid Minerals, Alake dele; Regional Development Minister, Abubakar Momoh; Minister of Science and Technology, UCC NNAJI; Budget Minister, Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Aanite; the general manager of the National Intelligence Agency, the Ambassador Mohammed; High government officials and leader of the private sector.
