Tinubu’s hat symbol now a symbol of oppression – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s government, saying the emblem on the president’s cap had become a symbol of oppression.

In a statement titled: “Beheaded!,” issued by his Special Assistant on Communications, Phrank Shaibu, the former Vice President said Tinubu had failed Nigerians, including his own supporters, after one year in office.

He recalled Tinubu’s pre-election statement that the cap design symbolized “broken shackles,” symbolizing his promise to free Nigerians from poverty and oppression.

However, Atiku noted that the president had not succeeded in breaking the cycle of poverty while the hats had become a burden for traders selling them and a symbol of shame for the president’s supporters.

He said: “During the campaign, these hats symbolized Tinubu’s promise to protect human rights, improve the economy and replicate Lagos’ success across Nigeria. However, the reality is far from it.

“Once-vibrant traders who proudly displayed their Emilokan hats at busy traffic lights and strategic street corners now find themselves burdened by them. Once a sought-after item, the hats have become a relic of shame for many Tinubu supporters, symbolizing broken promises and a political regime that has drifted towards authoritarianism.”

He stressed that disappointment with Tinubu’s administration goes beyond the political realm, highlighting the widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians.

“The emblem on Tinubu’s cap has become a symbol of oppression, a reminder of broken promises and unfulfilled hopes,” the former vice president concluded.
