A student of the last year of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Arobo Precious, was found dead in a bush near his residence, in what the police described as a suspected case of suicide.
The 27 -year -old, a national student of National Diploma II, was discovered hanging from a tree with a rope around the neck, days after what reported, shared an distressing video on social media that mentioned emotional turbulence.
The tragic discovery was made on June 18, 2025 and subsequently confirmed by the Ondo State Police Command.
According to the public relations official of the Command, SP Olayink Alayande, the accident was reported to the Police Station of Division B AD OWO at about 22:00
“Upon receipt of the report, the division police officer brought to the scene a team of investigators, where they found the lifeless body of a young man, about 27 years old, hanging on a rope who believed to have been used to commit suicide,” said Alayande.
He added that the body was immediately evacuated and deposited to the morgue of the Federal Medical Center, Owo, for conservation and autopsy.
Sources close to the deceased revealed that Precous was fighting the emotional trauma, according to what was reported connected to a failed romantic relationship.
It is said that he published a video shortly before his death with a caption that strongly suggested that he had been overwhelmed by anguish.
The Polytechnic community has been thrown into mourning while students and staff face the news of the loss.
Many took social media to express shock and pain, while asking for greater attention to mental health problems among young people, in particular students who face academic and emotional pressure.
The institution has yet to issue an official declaration when submitting this relationship.
In the meantime, the police say that investigations are underway to establish the complete circumstances that surround the accident.
