Nigerian football has been thrown into mourning after reporting that former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai has died.
According to Radio Nigeria, the 61 -year -old man died on Thursday morning after fighting a prolonged illness.
Football lovers have since pouring tribute on X and other social media platforms.
While his family has not released an official statement, a senior government official of the Lagos state has confirmed the development.

Known by fans as “Dodo Mayana”, Rufai is celebrated as one of Nigeria’s best goalkeepers in the history of football.
He is a key figure in the Super Eagles squad who lifted the 1994 African nation in Tunisia and was also displayed in two FIFA World Cups – USA ’94 and France ’98.
During his international career, Rufai received 65 caps for the Nigerian national team. At the club level, he has a task that is famous for stationery shops in Lagos, continue eagles in the Netherlands, and Deportivo La Coruña in Spain.
