Nigerian Army troops have dismantled an arms smuggling syndicate supplying arms and ammunition to terrorist groups in the North West.
The military, in a post on its official X Handle account on Thursday, said its troops also busted a notorious kidnapping syndicate and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition from the suspects.
It said troops working in coordination with other security agencies on Wednesday arrested a notorious arms smuggler, Mallam Yau Ibrahim.
The suspect was arrested in Babinga Kudaru Village, Saminaka, Lere local government area, Kaduna State.
According to the military, the arrests followed the arrest of other syndicate members by Operation Safe Haven troops in Jos on July 31.
The text reads: “Among the items found were AK-47 rifles, AK-47 rifle magazines, 1,641 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, and 49 rounds of 7.62 mm (NATO) ammunition.

“In Katsina State, troops ambushed and neutralized a terrorist at Anguwa Boka in Faskari Local Government Area.
“The troops found one AK 47 rifle, one AK 47 magazine, three rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, one mobile phone, and various other items.
“In a separate operation, troops tracked down and arrested one Abubakar Shehu (25) in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun.
“Shehu was a member of a kidnap syndicate responsible for the killing of Alhaji Mairuga Abubakar, Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
“After initial investigation, the suspect took the troops to Okoka forest in Itesiwaju Local Government Area.
“They confiscated four AK-47 rifles, one locally assembled pistol, eight magazines, one bullet, and 110 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.
“Troops continue to pursue other members of the kidnapping syndicate.”
