Troops kill nine suspected bandits in Kaduna

Nigerian Army troops have killed nine suspected bandits and recovered dangerous automatic weapons and ammunition in Kaduna State.

The military said in a post on its official X Handle account on Friday that the fighting took place in Kampani Doka and Rifigoro communities in Birnin Gwari local government area of โ€‹โ€‹the state.

According to police, the troops launched an offensive operation against the terrorists’ base near Kampani Doka and faced stiff resistance from the criminals who opened fire upon seeing the troops.

The caption reads: โ€œIn a gunfight that lasted for hours, the gallant troops subdued the criminal elements with superior firepower, thereby neutralizing seven terrorists.

โ€œThe troops seized three AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines (four of which were fully loaded with 120 rounds of 7.62 mm Special caliber bullets), one magazine, and a motorbike.

โ€œOther items included three mobile phones, two Baofeng communication radios, and three pairs of civilian clothes.

โ€œThe troops then launched an attack on Gayam village in the same local government area, where a known rebel leader was neutralized.

โ€œSome of his accomplices fled with gunshot wounds, leaving behind their weapons and equipment.

โ€œAmong the items seized by the troops were a PKT machine gun with eight rounds of ammunition, a Baofeng radio, a number of communication devices, one SMF magazine and 14 mobile SIM cards.

โ€œThese successful operations, marked by the elimination of key terrorist figures and the seizure of dangerous weapons, represent an important milestone in ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.โ€
