Troops repel ISWAP attacks, killing 38 rebels in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (Northeast), Operation Hadin Kai,!have repelled a multi-front attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Borno State.

OPHK Information Media Officer, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said in a statement that terrorists attacked the facility in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“Subsequent exploitation along the terrorists’ withdrawal route inflicted further heavy losses on the fleeing insurgents,” the spokesperson said.

According to him, a total of 38 terrorists were killed, with eight bodies found near the fighting site.

He said credible human intelligence from local sources indicated that more than 30 additional terrorist bodies and abandoned weapons were visible along the Garin Mallum – Garin Gajere axis all the way to the Timbuktu Triangle.

This was proven by traces of blood and equipment strewn along the withdrawal route, he added.

Uba further revealed that troops found seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs and various kinds of ammunition from the scene.
