Troops of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified their offensives against illegal refining operations along the Niger River, bordering Ndokwa East and Ndoni Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Delta and Rivers States.
The operation, conducted on the basis of reliable information, led to the confiscation and destruction of numerous objects, including eight pots, three storage tanks, three huge storage shelters and twelve feeding troughs.
Also seized were three cooking drums, a complex network of pipes and hoses, and more than 2,000 liters of crude oil stored in a metal oven, among other materials.
Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, acting deputy director of public affairs for the army’s 6th Division, said troops also seized two wooden boats loaded with more than 10,000 litres of condensate.
The vessels were abandoned by the criminals fleeing into the creeks and were managed in line with the mandate of Operation DELTA SAFE.
In a related incident, troops of the 5th Battalion arrested eight suspects along the Orashi River in Onne Local Government Area of ββRivers State.
The suspects were arrested with motorcycles carrying more than 2,000 liters of condensate.
Additionally, soldiers from the 29th Battalion destroyed nine other illegal refining sites near the Imo River, which housed over 15,000 litres of illegally refined products.
The suspects were handed over to the competent authorities for trial.
