Troost-Ekong reflects on his move to Saudi club Al-Khaloood

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has revealed the reason behind his decision to join Saudi Arabian Professional Football League club Al-Khaloood.

Troost-Ekong joined Paulo Duarte’s side from Greek Super League champions PAOK Thessaloniki last month.

The 31-year-old spent just one season at PAOK, winning the Greek Super League title with the club.

The centre-back was first linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia in January.

Troost-Ekong said the need to secure his future prompted him to accept the offer.

“I got an offer I couldn’t refuse. I’m 31 years old and now I have to think about the bigger picture,” Troost-Ekong said on the Counter Attack Podcast.

“I think the Saudi Premier League is competitive, you see the names that play there. My first game was against Benzema, Kanté, Fabinho, world-class players.”

“But at the same time, everyone talks about the opportunity you have there to secure your future, to think about my family, my children.”
