The President of the United States Donald Trump, Thursday 22 May 2025, has revoked the authority of the University of Harvard to enroll international students.
The National Security Department announced it in a declaration.
This forced students to move to other universities or lose their legal status in the United States.
The National Secretary of National Security Kristi Noem ordered the Department to stop the certification of the student and the program for exchange visitors of the University of Harvard, said the Department.
Noem has accused the University of “promoting violence, anti -Semitism and coordination with the Chinese Communist Party”.
Harvard said that the move of the Trump administration – which affects thousands of students – was illegal and was equivalent to retaliation.
The bra on foreign students marks a significant escalation of the Trump administration campaign against the Ivy League University of Cambridge, in Massachusetts, which emerged as one of Trump’s most important institutional objectives.
The move comes after Harvard refused to provide information that Noem had previously requested some visa owners for foreign students who attended the University, said the Department.
“It is a privilege, not a right, for the universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their payments of higher lessons to help awaken their billion dollars,” Noem said.
In a statement, Harvard rejected the accusations and committed himself to supporting foreign students.
The University said: โThe government’s action is illegal.
“This retaliation action threatens serious damage to the Harvard community and our country and undermines Harvard’s academic and research mission.”
The University said she was “fully engaged” for the education of foreign students and was working on the production of assistance for affected students, Reuters reported.
The University of Harvard recorded almost 6,800 international students in the 2024-2025 school year, equal to 27% of its total enrollment, according to university statistics.
Trump has embarked on an extraordinary effort to renew universities and private schools in the United States which states that they entrusted anti-American ideologies, Marxist and “radical left”.
The president, a republican, criticized Harvard for having taken on important democrats to teach or leadership positions.
