Nigerian international striker Moses Simon is having a blistering start to the season in France for Ligue 1 side Nantes, bagging his ninth goal in five games in a 1-1 draw against Angers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Fifth-placed Nantes pulled off a major coup last season by securing a commitment from the 29-year-old Nigerian to remain with the club, as his previous contract was due to expire at the end of last season. Before his decision, he was highly sought after by Europe’s top clubs.

That decision is paying off in the level of his contribution to the team since the start of this season. A vast improvement on last season, which was cut short by an ankle injury sustained while with the Nigerian national team, forcing him to miss the final four months of the season.

Simon assisted Johann Lepenant for his team’s opener in the 18th minute. The home side equalised six minutes later through Himad Abdelli.

His excellent form makes him the club’s most prolific striker in front of goal since 2013, when they secured promotion to the French top flight. He currently has 29 assists for the club, more than any other player in the aforementioned period.
