*Counselor, 79-year-old grandmother, others join the club
Mother Africa shone brightly over the weekend in the United States (US) as the city-county of Indianapolis-Marion released a formal statement honoring Nigeria’s iconic socio-cultural organization, the Kegites Club.
In the statement, the county said it fully identifies with the key roles that Americana Archaivar Plus Convergence and Universal Archaivar Elders have played since its inception at home and abroad.
A member of the board, Vop Osili, willingly joined the club and was quickly made a patron. He was joined by a 79-year-old grandmother and five other people.
It all happened during the unveiling ceremony of the club’s upcoming world tour crest on Saturday, March 28, 2026 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event brought together distinguished elders, colleagues, dignitaries and members of the Nigerian diaspora in a celebration that highlighted the timeless values of the Kegites Club: peace, respect and brotherhood.
The highlight of the evening was the official unveiling of the coat of arms by Osili, a respected Indianapolis Democratic leader, city-county council member (District 11) and former council president (2018-2026), who recently declared his candidacy for mayor of Indianapolis in 2027.
The proclamation was signed by Osili and Yulonda Winfield, county clerk for the city of Indianapolis-Marion.
The county presented an official proclamation of recognition to the Universal Archaivar Elders and the Americana Archaivar Plus Convergence. The county recognized the organizations’ outstanding contributions to cultural preservation, community development and promoting unity within the diaspora, further solidifying the significance of the occasion and the growing impact of the Convergence.
Osili was also awarded the title of Patron of the Kegites Club, marking a significant bridge between African cultural heritage and civic leadership in the United States.
During his remarks, Osili praised the organization’s impact and cohesion within the diaspora:
“What I witnessed here today is more than a meeting: it is a living example of unity, cultural pride and intergenerational strength.
“The Kegites Club represents a model community where respect is earned, heritage is preserved and people come together not just as Nigerians, but as one family. I am honored to be part of this journey.”
The ceremony also featured a deeply symbolic and inspiring moment as Mrs Adediwura Faturoti, 79, was “associated” with the Convergence, demonstrating that the spirit of the Comradium transcends age and continues to welcome all who embrace its values.
Adding the voice of deep tradition and ancient wisdom, Chief Bosun Ajibogun, a revered leader of the club, highlighted the enduring essence of the movement:
“The strength of the Keghites lies in its continuity, where the elders lead and the younger ones follow with pride. What we see here today is a living culture, not in memory, but in practice. This coat of arms is not just a symbol; it is a pact of unity that binds generations together.”
The Chairman of the Board, Chief Adewale Fakorede, and the Grand Kord (coordinator) of the Convergence, Patron Oluranti Dairo, both expressed satisfaction with the development and vowed to take the club to greater heights.
The leader of the Archivar Elders, Basorun Deleola Fayth Daramola, reflected on the broader vision of the movement:
“What we are building is more than reunions: it is a legacy. A convergence of minds, culture and purpose that will outlast us. Today’s unveiling is not just about a coat of arms; it is about identity, continuity and the power of unity in diversity.”
One of the most touching moments of the event was the presence of Chief Taofeek Gbolagade Rahman, a patriarch of the club, who graced the meeting with his presence despite the death of his 90-year-old mother just hours before his trip to Indianapolis.
In an emotional reflection, Chief Rahman said:
“This Comradium is not just an association: it is a family. Even in moments of personal pain, we have intervened because this bond is sacred. My presence here is a testimony to the love, commitment and lifelong brotherhood that defines who we are.”
The event attracted attendees from across the United States, including New Jersey, where members traveled to take part in the historic occasion. Colleague Habib Akinyemi (aka Anobi Jersey) shared his experience:
“This is what unity looks like. From coast to coast, we have come together not just to celebrate a coat of arms, but to reaffirm who we are. The energy, the respect, the culture – they remind you that no matter where we are in the world, our roots remain strong.”
Delivering the closing reflection, Indy Tent Coordinator Tola Adesuyi expressed gratitude and optimism for the future:
“This moment is a testament to what is possible when vision meets commitment. Indianapolis has spoken and the Convergence has just begun. We are building something lasting, that will continue to unite, inspire and uplift our people for generations to come.”
The American Archaivar Plus Convergence, under the auspices of the Universal Archaivar Elders, continues to expand its cultural and social footprint across the diaspora, promoting unity, mentorship, and the preservation of African traditions. The 2026 unveiling of the coat of arms marks another milestone in its journey, as it builds momentum towards future global engagements and cultural showcases.
The event concluded with vibrant rounds, cultural exchanges and renewed commitment to the ideals of the Comradium – unity, heritage and legacy – beyond the one-finger salute.
