The United Kingdom will recognize a Palestinian state in September unless Israel takes “substantial steps to end the frightening situation in Gaza,” said Sir Keir Starmer.
The prime minister said that Israel must also satisfy other conditions, including the agreement for a ceased the fire and allows the United Nations to restart the supply of aid, or the United Kingdom would take the step to the United Nations General Assembly of September.

About 255 parliamentarians have signed a letter asking the government to immediately recognize a Palestinian state, including more than half of the Labor parliamentarians.
The Labor deputy Sarah Champion, who coordinated the letter, said he was “happy and raised” to the announcement.
“This will put the political pressure on Israel and clarify what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank is totally unacceptable,” he said.
“However, I am troubled our recognition appears to be conditional to Israel’s actions.
“Israel is the occupant and the recognition concerns the self -determination of the Palestinian people. The two should be separated.”
The conservatives and the UK reform said that now it is not the right time to take the step, claiming that this rewards Hamas for their attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said that recognizing a Palestinian state “will not bring the hostages home, will not end the war and will not receive help in Gaza”.

Most of the countries – about 139 in all – formally recognize a Palestinian state.
