The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Edo State has banned all forms of celebrations for the release of graduating students.
The ban was announced with a circular issued by the UNIBEN chancellor Ademola Bobola on Tuesday 7 October 2025.
University management has warned that violators risk serious disciplinary action, including lying, expulsion or withdrawal of certificate.
Bobola said the decision was made during a meeting Monday, where management reaffirmed an earlier university Senate resolution banning such activities on campus.
“Management stated that ‘no type of signing celebration, including signing T-shirts and listening to music, will be tolerated,’” the registrar noted.
Bobola said UNIBEN management will not tolerate any form of disorderly conduct or unauthorized gatherings during or after exams.
“It will not be allowed to parade indiscriminately on campuses with vehicles of any brand,” Bobola warned.
He added that unauthorized vehicles will not be allowed on campuses during the last week of second semester exams.
The UNIBEN chancellor said: “The management has also banned large gatherings around faculties, schools or institutes after exams.
“Photographers will not be permitted to set up photo booths or galleries for the purpose of such celebration.”
Bobola said the management has equally cautioned parents and guardians of final year students against visiting campus premises during the final days of examinations.
He adds: “Parents and guardians of final year students are advised to stay away from the Faculty, School or Institute premises, especially on the last day of exams.
“Members of the university community should kindly take note of the above position for strict compliance.
“Any violation will attract severe disciplinary sanctions, including withdrawal of certificate, lying and expulsion of violators.”
