Unijos will host the 27th Nuga Games

The 27th Nigerian University Games (Nuga) is scheduled to take place at JOS University (Unijos) from 6 to 16 November 2025.

With only one month left, preparation was mature because Unijos prepared to welcome 7,457 athletes and accredited officials from universities throughout Nigeria for ten days of rigorous competition, friendship, and celebration of university sports excellence.

This Olympics, which is the main sports event among Nigerian universities, will feature students who compete in various disciplines that aim to foster unity, talent discovery, and national development through sports.

The preliminary competition has been completed – or is ongoing – in 15 nation nationally zones, to determine the university that will qualify for the Olympics.

Speaking of the readiness of the institution, Professor Ishaya Tanko, Deputy Chancellor of JOS University, reiterated the university’s commitment to hold this impressive event.

“JOS University is fully ready to host this country,” said Professor Tanko. “This event is not only about competition; this is an opportunity to promote sports excellence, strengthen unity among our young generation, and show the hospitality and capacity of our institutions and the Plateau community.”

The 27th Nuga Games will mark the first time the University of Jos is the host of the event since it was founded, and the local organizing committee (LOC) has ensured that facilities, logistics, and security settings are being completed according to international standards.

Nuga officials have also confirmed that volunteer registration, media accreditation, and event promotion are ongoing through an official platform to ensure smooth coordination ahead of the Olympics.
