UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR (UNICAL) ACHIEVES FULL NUC ACCREDITATION FOR 35 PROGRAMS

UNICAL SHINES AS NUC PUBLISHES 2023 ACCREDITATION RESULTS

Following the National Universities Commission’s latest accreditation exercise conducted between October and November 2023, the University of Calabar (Unical), according to results released recently, achieved over 98% full accreditation of its programs involved in the exercise.

According to correspondence to this effect signed on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC by Ag. Director of Accreditation, Eng. Abraham Chundunsu addressed the Vice Chancellor of Unical, the University has obtained full accreditation for all its programs involved in the exercise, except 4 programs with interim accreditation.

The results show that of the 39 academic programs involved, the institution achieved full accreditation in 35 programs, including: Political and Administrative Studies, Pharmacology, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Architecture, Language and Communication Studies and Music.

Also with full accreditation status are Human Physiology, Mass Communication, Educational Administration and Planning, Educational Technology, English Language Education, Educational Geography, educational psychology, primary education, environmental education, guidance and counseling and home economics.

Agricultural engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, real estate management, environmental protection and resource management, fine and applied arts, surveying and geoinformatics, urban and regional planning.

Mathematics, microbiology, scientific laboratory technology, statistics, peace and conflict studies, political science and social work also achieved full accreditation.

While physics, law, forest and wildlife resource management and anatomy are the only ones to benefit from provisional accreditation status.

The NUC Ag. Director of Accreditation, while noting that the accreditation exercises are carried out in accordance with the mandate of the NUC as enshrined in the relevant parts of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, enjoined the University to ensure that accredited programs comply with the use of the core program minimum. Academic Standards (CCMAS).
