Updated: Finidi quits job at Super Eagles – Latest sports news in Nigeria
The NFF had stated in a statement that Finidi would work with a technical advisor who would be hired soon following Nigeria’s poor run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
According to Colin Udoh, the 58-year-old former player was not officially informed of the decision to reassign him to the team’s coaching position during the meeting or afterwards.
He found out after his arrival in Port Harcourt on Thursday, in the NFF statement issued that day.
Appointed just two months ago, during his tenure, the Super Eagles struggled in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The team only managed a 1-1 draw against South Africa and suffered a 2-1 defeat against Benin in Abidjan.
These results have left the Super Eagles in fifth position in the table, with just three points from four games, after two previous draws against Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
The three-time African champions are currently behind Rwanda, South Africa, Benin Republic and Lesotho in Group C.
